Three Congress MLAs in Kerala booked in rape case

Thiruvananthapuram: Three Congress MLAs and Lok Sabha ticket hopefuls were booked on charges of sexual exploitation and rape by the Crime Branch of Kerala Police yesterday.

Based on a complaint made by prime accused in the multi-crore ‘solar scam’ the police have filed an FIR against the three legislators: Congress MLA from Ernakulam, Hibi Eden and MLAs and former state ministers Adoor Prakash and A P Anil Kumar.

Eden who was likely to be fielded from Ernakulam Lok Sabha seat accused that the case was filed against him to tarnish his image ahead of the general elections. Adoor Prakash is being considered for either Attingal or Alappuzha constituency.

The woman and her co-accused in the solar scam, which the BJP dubbed as ‘biggest sex-cum-bribe’ scandal, had allegedly duped several investors of crores of rupees by offering to set up solar panel units for them.

On 19 July 2013, the woman in a letter to the then city police commissioner named several Congress and UDF leaders of sexual misconduct and corruption charges against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and some of his ministers and two former Union ministers. However, the Kerala High Court on 11 March dismissed a plea seeking expeditious probe against Chandy in connection with the case.

The FIR against the legislators has been filed in a special court in Ernakulam district set up to fast track cases.
