Woman student arrested for Porur ATM robbery

Chennai: Three persons including a city-based woman student were arrested by the police in the connection with robbery of Rs 10 lakh from an ATM kiosk near Porur last month.

The other two are from Nigeria. According to sources, Akkyo Maya and Aamu from Nigeria were arrested first. Based on inquires with them, the woman college student living in Manimangalam identified as Sheriya was arrested.

She allegedly let the men stay at her residence and knew of the heist. A special team of police has left for Mangalore to arrest the main accused in the case who is allegedly in possession the stolen cash.

Three special teams of police carried out investigations with clues from CCTV cameras in the area and mobile phone signals. The incident took place on 7 February at 8.30 pm at a Canara Bank ATM kiosk.

Two employees – Devaraj (35) and Murali (30) – of a private cash management service were refilling cash when the incident took place.
