Chennai: Owing to general elections this year, Tamilnadu schools will have extended summer holidays for 50 days.
According to reports this morning, the Education Department has said the arrangement was in view of the polls being conducted in schools. The 2019 general elections are being held in seven phases in the country from 11 April to 19 May, and Tamilnadu will vote on 18 April as of now.
The counting will take place 23 May and the results will be announced the same day.
Tamilnadu schools will work till 13-14 April and then go into recess for the summer, said the Education Department. The schools will reopen in the first week of June.
The principal education officers of every district have been instructed to ensure that the new books are distributed to the students as soon as the schools reopen.
On Friday, the Directorate of School Education had told all schools to hold the annual exams by 12 April to help the Election Commission prepare the polling booths in the schools.
