Chennai: Filing of nomination papers for phase-1 of the 2019 general elections began this morning.
Elections to the 17th Lok Sabha are being conducted in seven phases in the country. Seventeen States, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal and Union Territories Andaman, Lakshadweep and Chandigarh are going to the polls 11 April.
The last date for candidates submitting nomination papers for the first phase is 25 March and scrutiny will take place 26 March. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 28 March.
Apart from the parliamentary elections, Assembly elections to Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are being conducted 11 April. Also, by-elections to 28 seats in the 147-strong Odisha Assembly are being conducted on the same day.
With the general elections and by-elections being conducted on 18 April in Tamilnadu, contestants will be filing their nominations from tomorrow.
