Sub-Inspector in Chennai injured while chasing gang

Chennai: A Sub-Inspector of police suffered grievous injuries while he tried to stop a vehicle at Chintadripet in the wee hours of today.

A police source said, Prakash Natarajan (34), is Law and Order SI at Chintadripet station. He was on patrol duty from 9 pm yesterday. From 1.30 am onwards, he was checking vehicles on the road and moving around in the area on his two-wheeler.

At 3 am, three men on a two-wheeler were riding fast. The trio overtook him and sped off. They did not stop the vehicle even when he asked them to. Angered by this, Prakash began chasing them.

At a junction at Arunachalam Naicken Road, he missed a speed breaker, hit it and fell. Prakash was not wearing a helmet and suffered injuries near his eyes, head, shoulder, forehead, knees, fingers and lips.

Another patrol police saw and rushed him to Rajiv Ganhdi Government General Hosptial. A native of Kanchipuram, he lived in police quarters at Mylapore. Anna square traffic investigation wing is probing the case.
