Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin began his campaign for the upcoming general elections and by-elections from Tiruvarur this morning.
After paying tributes to his paternal grandmother and father M Karnandhi’s mother Anjugam at their Tiruvarur residence on Sannidhi Street, he launched the campaign by canvassing for Poondi Kalaivanan, the DMK candidate for the Assembly seat.
The by-election to Tiruvarur constituency was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA and five-time chief minister M Karunanidhi last year.
Though there was talk of making Stalin contest from Tiruvarur, the party finally decided on Poondi Kalaivanan to fight the election for the prestigious seat.
Yesterday, the DMK had released its election manifesto in Chennai and today Stalin is in Tiruvarur, canvassing from street to street for the party candidate.
The Assembly by-elections are being conducted along with the parliamentary elections 18 April in Tamilnadu.
