Chennai: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) led by actor-politician Kamal Haasan yesterday stitched up an alliance with the Republican Party of India (RPI).
MNM allotted it one Lok Sabha seat and three assembly constituencies out of the 18 by-poll seats for the coming elections on 18 April.
The alliance led by MNM would provide alternative politics in the State, while the other parties were behind power, said RPI president S K Thamizharasan. The Election Commission allotted MNM the ‘battery torch’ symbol and the RPI too would be contesting on the same symbol.
Kamal when asked if he would contest as a candidate said, “I will let you know. I have not announced names of candidates.”
