2019 LS polls: Telangana CM pushes for federal front

Hyderabad: “If federal front government comes, if a true peoples government comes and governance is done with people as the central point, these are problems that can be solved and not problems that cannot be solved. The existing policies need to change completely,” said Telangana Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao yesterday.

Speaking at a party campaign in Nizamabad, Rao accused despite the natural resources available in India, the Congress and BJP had failed to ensure development during their over 60 years rule and the people were fed up with them. The BJP was following political Hindutva, Rao said. He pointed out that China and Singapore have achieved rapid progress in various spheres, whereas that was not the case with India. He said that a new economic model and a new agriculture policy need to be brought up in the country and the alleged unrest among poor and farmers should go “Don’t we have resources? There are (resources) in the country. But, there is no intelligence to use… There is no water policy in the country because of the alleged misrule of the two parties,” he said.

Flaying the BJP and Congress for their speeches, Rao said, “Congress president Rahul Gandhi says the Prime Minister is a ‘chor‘ (thief), while Modi says Gandhi and his mother are on bail…. Are these leaders of the country? Are they who should become Prime Minister,” he asked.

Reacting to state BJP president Laxman’s comments against him, Rao said that BJP leaders spoke as if they have taken contract for Hindu religion. On Monday, Laxman, targeting TRS joining hands with AIMIM, had said it was devil quoting the scriptures and asked TRS what their stance on Ram temple issue was.

Speaking about this, Rao said Laxman should first reveal if his party works for people or a party that does religious campaign. Should political parties deal with ‘Janmabhoomi‘ (birth place) of Lord Ram or other figures in mythologies, he asked. Religious gurus would deal with issues like birth place of gods and the political parties should address problems like providing water and electricity to farmers, he said. The matter (Ayodhya issue) was in the Supreme Court and the courts will decide the issue and we need not interfere, he said.

Rao further alleged that BJP spoke as if Hindus abuse other religions, but Hindu faith preached love and respect for all. “Yours is political Hindutva. Ours is true Hindutva.. Ours is spiritual Hindutva. You are duplicate Hindus, Laxman ji. Your games would not work for long,” said the CM.

Reiterating TRS stance of seeking 16 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana (leaving Hyderabad held by ally AIMIM), Rao said he would announce party candidates on 21 March. Telangana goes to elections in the first phase on 11 April.
