Chennai: The city police have arrested a man, the main accused in the Anna Nagar spa robbery case.
According to the police, K Pandiyan (29), a native of Tirunelveli, was arrested from his hideout at K K Nagar here last night.
The police recovered 3.5 sovereigns of gold he had stolen from the spa.
A four-member gang was arrested recently, weeks after they threatened staff members of the spa at Shanthi Colony at knife-point and escaped with four sovereigns and Rs 36,000. The incident took place 25 January.
At the time, Pandiyan, the leader of the gang, had managed to give the police the slip. The gang’s modus operandi was to enter parlours and spas and threaten people there that they were running the facilities without proper licence.
The arrested were identified as S Manikkaraja (24), K Velaiah (28), A Selva (25) and A Justin Muthaiah (46). The police said Justine Muthaiah has a case related to prostitution against him.
