1,500 police deployed for IPL matches at Chepauk

Chennai: With IPL fever gripping the city, the city police have laid out an extensive security arrangement to avert any untoward incident.

The Chepauk stadium and surrounding areas will turn a fortress with a security detail by the city police. According to the police, nearly 1,500 policemen will be deployed in and around the venue during the matches. An Additional Commissioner will be at the venue to monitor the security arrangements. Under him, a team of six Deputy Commissioner, 42 assistant commissioners, 37 Inspectors and 120 sub-inspectors will be on duty.
1,300 police personnel, including head constables, Grade One police and women police will also be present to handle the crowd. The Intelligence section of police, Central Crime Branch (CCB) will taking charge of the outer-territory of the cricket pitch and dressing rooms of the cricketers. They will be on high alert. Three teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Fire and Rescue teams will be on stand by at the location.
All 12 gates and restrooms of the stadium will have police presence. Such a huge police security is given as it said that 15,000 member audience, 7,000 women and 8,000 men will turn up for the matches.
The matches which will begin 8 pm on the scheduled dates will go on till 12 am, the city police have been practicing the security arrangements from 6 am to 10 pm on a daily basis.
