Chennai: AIADMK is known as a party which has huge support from the women voters. Be it during former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran’s rule or his successor J Jayalalithaa’s period, it is mostly women who comprised a major part of the vote bank for the party.
Trying to capitalise on this strength and following the path of his predecessors Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has asked his party women wing to garner three crore votes.
“Women are the pulse of the party which has about 1.5 crore cadres. Party cadre apart from his/her vote, should also get one more vote for Jayalalithaa that will take the tally to three crore votes,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He also said the AIADMK government has implemented several welfare measures for the benefit of women.
“Party’s women cadres should take forward all these schemes to the public and should seek votes in the upcoming elections,” he said.
He further said Jayalalithaa had said the party should survive for 100 years even after her demise. “To make her dream a reality, the women cadres should work day and night to ensure that the party emerges victorious in the Lok Sabha elections and the 18 Assembly bypolls. As a brother I am ordering you all to ensure that the women’s vote does not get scattered and is cast for AIADMK,” he said.
Palaniswami also asked the cadres to tell people about the various announcements made in the party’s manifesto such as Amma National Poverty Eradication Scheme aimed at supporting BPL families with a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500, education loan waiver and release of Rajiv Gandhi murder convicts.
