Chennai: The Madurai police have registered a case against CPI(M) candidate Su Venkatesan under three sections.
Venkatesan, a famous Tamil writer who has won the Sahitya Akademi award, is the Madurai constituency candidate for the 18 April 2019 general elections.
Yesterday, before filing his nomination papers, Venkatesan had garlanded the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar at Goripalayam in Madurai. But reports state that he did so without seeking the permission of the police.
So, the Thallakulam police have registered a case against him under three sections.
(The CPI(M) has been allotted two seats in the DMK alliance, the other constituency being Coimbatore.)
It took Venkatesan 10 years to complete his magnum opus Kaval Kottam which won him the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award in 2011. It was made into a Tamil film, Aravan. He is also the general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artistes Association.
