Venkatesan, a famous Tamil writer who has won the Sahitya Akademi award, is the Madurai constituency candidate for the 18 April 2019 general elections.

Yesterday, before filing his nomination papers, Venkatesan had garlanded the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar at Goripalayam in Madurai. But reports state that he did so without seeking the permission of the police.

So, the Thallakulam police have registered a case against him under three sections.
