Irregular clearing of garbage at Rajakilpakkam, has left residents worrying, so to say. According to Federation of Rajakilpakkam Residents Welfare Association’s secretary V Seetharaman, garbage is not being cleaned at regular intervals now.
“Whenever we ask about this, we are informed that the number of conservancy workers has reduced, which has led to this problem. Earlier, there were 18 workers. Now, only eight of them are involved in collection. They say that they are not able to cover the entire stretch due to work burden,” he said.
He further said that house tax has been increased, which also includes paying for garbage. “Pig menace too has alarmingly risen in the locality. Drainage water in Sathya Sai Nagar has not been cleared for many days now and it may lead to spreading of diseases. No proper sanitation is being done,” he alleged.
He also stated that the only consolation in recent days, is that the Municipality had laid new roads in Tellus Avenue and Sathya Sai Nagar, while adding that residents will be happy if the officials start concentrating more on the hygiene of the locality. Sembakkam Municipality officials could not be reached for comments.
