With sharp rise in the crime activities in the locality, the residents of Ramapuram complain that the area lacks CCTV surveillance cameras.
“Ramapuram has seen vast civic and commercial developments. But apart from some major junctions, most of the interior areas are not under CCTV surveillance. This worries the people, especially women. They fear walking alone during night times,” says Raju, a resident of Ramapuram.
Raju reveals that several robberies have taken place in the neighbourhood recently and most of the cases are still pending. The main reason for this is that there are no proper evidence. Installing CCTV cameras will help the police immensely, he says.
“My wife works in the nearby IT park. Sometimes, during night shifts, her cab drops her at the main junction and she has to walk all the way home. At such times, even a small suspicious activity freaks her out,” says a worried Raju.
It is notable that some of the neighbourhood associations pooled in their own money and installed CCTVs in the areas. However, Raju claims that not all associations can do it and requests the authorities to take care of this.
“As crime against women are increasing day-by-day, every street and junction should be brought under surveillance. Also, the installation of CCTV’s will greatly help the women who work in the nearby IT park,” Raju ends.
