Rs 1.36 crore seized by flying squad in Chennai

Chennai: The flying squad and city police as part of election duty seized more than Rs 1.36 crores from several persons in vehicle checks yesterday.

According to sources, two traffic policemen at Wall Tax Road saw four person standing on the roadside and talking in a suspicious manner.

When the traffic police went up to them and spoke they found the men to be hiding huge quantities of unaccounted cash inside the shirt they were wearing.

Police found Baskar (33) who was hiding Rs 36 lakhs, Srinivasan (48) with Rs 40 lakhs, Anjaneyan (47) with Rs 26 lakh and Shiekh Saneel had Rs 34 lakhs.

The men had come to the city from Andhra Pradesh and were at Wall Tax Road deciding on which lodge to take a room and stay.

In an unrelated case, a man from Bengaluru was held at Kanchipuram with Rs 1.39 lakh. He told the police that he had come to buy silk sarees but failed to show them the source of income. A Kerala man, identified as Shajahan was held at Thiruvannamalai with Rs 4.78 lakh and another person, Chandramohan was held at Thiruneermalai with Rs 72,000.
