Sidewall of bridge on Cooum river damaged, residents worried

A portion of the sidewall of the bridge on the Cooum river at Chinmaya Nagar is broken and it has affected the movement of pedestrians and motorists.

The incident took place a fortnight ago and no action has been taken so far to repair it, says Chitra, a resident.

The bridge acts as a key link road to important locations in the area. Also, many use it to reach the wholesale market at Koyambedu, says Sankari, another resident.

The residents say that the civic body should have fenced the broken wall to prevent motorists and pedestrians from slipping into the river, particularly at night. They also say that the bridge, built a decade ago, has not seen proper maintenance.

When the civic body was contacted, it was informed that soon steel fencing would be provided on the broken portion and reconstruction taken up shortly.
