The annual day of Arvind Foundation was celebrated with great joy and jubilation by their special children, adolescents, staff and support staff at Mahodaya Hall, Ashok Nagar, 10 March.
The theme was ‘Puthiyathoor Pazhamai Seivvom’ (New era of the old). Through weaving a story around this theme (bringing back the old traditions for making the world better) the special children portrayed the message effectively.
About 80 special children from four centres of Arvind Foundation were part of the show. They were trained and supported on stage by 30 staff of the foundation. They underwent rigorous training for the past two months.
“Such training for the children is, in itself, a unique experience. It was not just a strong preparation for the event but a session for shaping up a few life skills that special children direly need,” the release said.
None of the props and costumes were procured from outside. They were all prepared by the staff and students and were put up on stage by a good number of volunteers.
“Though all the members of the audience enjoyed the lively drama, the section of audience who felt overwhelmed were the parents. Many of them felt emotional and overjoyed to see their children perform beyond expectations,” the release said.
