Women held in Chennai for smuggling gold in innerwear

Chennai: In a shocking incident, the city police arrested two women for smuggling gold worth Rs 59 lakh in two separate incidents at the airport. One of them had it hidden in her innerwear.

According to media reports, Padmavathi aged 30 arrived in Chennai from Kuwait yesterday. The officials received a tip-off and she was subjected to a check. Two gold bars weighing 365 gms worth Rs 12 lakh was found with her.

In a separate incident,  (38), a Thailand national, Kraisorn Thamprakop arrived from Bangkok yesterday at the airport. When the officials intercepted her she was found to be carrying gold weighing 1.4 kg worth Rs 47 lakh. She had the metal concealed in a specially-designed innerwear.

During investigations, she informed the officials that the gold was to be handed over to someone outside the airport. With her help, the police nabbed a 33-year-old man Loveleen Kashyap.
