Cuttack: The people living in Cuttack and surrounding areas are in panic after the city witnessed the outbreak of bird flu. This has led to the authorities culling poultry.
District Chief Veterinary officer (CDVO) Loknath Behera said that the samples collected from a state-run duck breeding centre at Khapuria have tested positive to the strain of avian influenza.
Following this, as a precautionary measure, the Veterinary teams have began a drive to cull all the poultry birds and destroy the eggs within one km radius of the duck breeding centre. On Sunday evening alone, 400 bucks were culled
Also the blood samples of the people living within a 10-km radius of the locality will be collected and examined, said official reports. Similarly, huge quantities of chickens and eggs from nearby vending zones have also been destroyed. Official reports have said that the drive will continue for a few more days.
