Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin today said loans received by farmers by mortgaging their jewels up to five sovereigns in cooperative and public sector banks, will be waived.
Addressing an election rally at Tirupur, he said the announcement will be added to the DMK’s election manifesto.
The manifesto had already declared that farmers’ loans would be waived if the alliance Congress-DMK alliance, the Secular Progressive Alliance, came to power at the Centre. The DMK has now included jewel loans also to its manifesto.
The Congress manifesto, released yesterday in Delhi, also spoke of waiving farm loans in all the States of the country as it had done in Madhya Pradeesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where it recently assumed power.
