Dakshina Kannada manifesto is not a ‘jumla’: Congress

Mangaluru: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the main opposition party in the Centre, Congress, released its manifesto for Dakshina Kannada district yesterday.

B Ramananth Rai, a senior party leader released the manifesto yesterday. KPCC vice president Radhakrishna, DCC president Harish Kumar and former MLAs Abhayachandra Jain and J R Lobo were present during the occasion. Rai said it was a realistic document and not a ‘jumla‘ or gimmick.

The former state minister also recalled the contributions of Congress parliamentarians from that district for its development.

He stated that Congress had implemented various development projects including the New Mangalore Port, Mangaluru airport, KREC which was upgraded as NIT-K, MRPL and the national highways network.

Steps for developing small scale industries in the district was included in the new manifesto, he further added. The other promises made the manifesto are inclusion of Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, construction of ESI medical college and introduction of a pension scheme for auto rickshaw drivers.

It also promises to stop privatisation of Mangaluru airport and annul the merger of Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda.
