Earthquake hits Nicobar Islands regions

Chennai: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were hit by an earthquake early this morning. The earthquake reportedly hit the Nicobar Islands regions. It strength was measured as 4.7 on the Ritcher Scale.

According to news agency ANI, the earthquake hit the Nicobar Islands region at 4:44 am. There have been no reports of death and destruction so far.

Reports suggest that the epicentre of the quake, at a depth of around 10 km, was located at 7.3 degrees north latitude and 94.4 degrees east longitude.

Earlier in March, a medium intensity earthquake shook the islands. The quake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale had hit the island region on 23 March at around 5.04 pm.
