Coimbatore: As a tribute and a way to mark the centenary celebrations of Indian Air Fiorce’s late Marshal Arjan Singh, a half marathon was conducted yesterday at Air Force Administrative College (AFAC).
The college Air Commodore Satish Menon flagged off the marathon after reading out the message given by Chief of the Air Staff to the runners, air warriors and families.
Arjan Singh’s life and accomplishments – which included receiving the distinguished flying cross (DFC) in 1944 for his leadership in Burma campaign during World War-II and Padma Vibhushan award for distinguished service during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 – was read out during the event.
The college has the honour of hosting the Marshal in every rank from group captain to Air Chief Marshal with the last visit on 6 June 1969, when he visited this college on his farewell as Chief of the Air Staff.
According to a media report, Menon and Jayashree Menon, the president of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (local), gave away prizes and certificates to the best performing participants.
