Six teams formed to nab ex-MP’s son for mother’s murder

Chennai: The city police have formed six teams to arrest Praveen, who allegedly murdered his mother Rathinam over a property dispute at Besant Nagar on 14 April. Praveen is the son of late Member of Parliament Kolandaivelu (AIADMK).

Rathinam was brutally assaulted and murdered on Sunday evening by Praveen. “We suspect he is somewhere in the surrounding. We are searching within the city and in his native place in Salem. The search is led by Deputy Commissioner of Adyar, Shashank Sai. Efforts are on to trace Praveen’s phone,” sources said.

“He wanted to live by selling the family properties instead of working. He went to London to study engineering, but it is not known if he completed it,” sources added.

On Monday, police found the CCTV footage of Praveen leaving the house. Reports also emerged that Praveen did not attend his father Kolandaivelu’s funeral three years ago. Back in the UK, he married a foreigner and a Lookout Circular (LOC) has been sent to all airports to prevent him from flying abroad.

For a month, Rathinam was with her daughter Sudha (43) and her husband Aravind, both doctors in Tirupur. Only on 14 April Rathinam returned to their residence in Sixth Avenue, Besnat Nagar when Praveen arrived, pulled a fight with her and murdered her.
