Chennai: With the annual fishing ban for 6o days along the Tamilnadu coast coming into effect from Monday in view of the breeding season, boats and dhows have been anchored in Chennai fishing harbour.
The ban is in effect in 13 districts, including Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore.
The ban would be in force till June 15.
Fishermen use the lull to paint their boats, repair them as also the nets. Women can be seen drying fish to eke out a living. The State government allots Rs 5,000 to each fisherman for loss of livelihood during the ban.
Earlier, the ban was for 45 days and was increased to 60 days in 2017.
