Chennai: Chennai Spartans went down to Kazakhstan’s TNK Kazhrom in straight sets in the 2019 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Chinese Taipei.
The inaugural Pro Volleyball League title-winner lost 21-25, 20-25, 17-25 in its opener against the Kazakh team, which finished runner-up in the previous edition of the competition. Spartans coach MH Kumara had predicted a tough opening fixture and without a doubt, Kazhrom proved to be the better team on Thursday.
The Chennai-based side, which faces? EST Cola (Thailand) on Friday, will have to win both its remaining matches to safely secure a spot in the next stage.
