Chennai: On the occasion of Chitra Pournami today (Friday), milk pots (paal kudam) were carried to a number of Amman temple in the city.
Two of the prominent place were the Mundakakanni Amman Temple in Mylapore and the Om Sakthi Nagathamman Temple (Putru Koil) in the residential quarters of Anna University, Guindy.
According to reports, 1,008 milk pots were carried by women devotees to the Mundakakanni Amman Temple in the morning. There were the percussionists and other musicians accompanying the devotees. The milk was then used for abhishekam for the Amman.
In Guindy, the women devotees were asked to bring only the milk pots and pay Rs 101 to participate in the yearly ritual. The milk for the abhishekam was provided by the temple.
The procession began at Sri Ponniamman Temple in Kottur and made its way to Guindy.
