Mother held for beating up toddler in Kerala

Kochi: In a shocking incident, the police arrested a mother of a three-year-old boy for allegedly subjecting him to torture for being disobedient.

According to media reports, the boy in a comatose state was brought to a private hospital by his father who said that he had suffered injury after falling down from a desk.

However, the doctors have reported that the child had suffered serious head injuries and his right side of the brain was fully damaged. The boy had been beaten with a wooden object and there were burn injuries on several parts of his body, said a media report. The doctors have performed emergency surgery and the boy’s condition is said to be critical and he has been kept in ventilator support.

The police have registered case under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act (punishment for cruelty to child) against the woman who hails from Jharkhand.

A team of experts from the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, will reach the hospital for providing better medical care to the child. The police here said they have contacted their Jharkhand counterparts to get details about the child’s family and also to find out whether his father and mother were his biological parents.
