Toddler beaten up by mother in Kerala dies

Kochi: A three-year-old boy who was admitted to a private hospital in Aluva after suffering severe head injury after allegedly been beaten up by his mother died yesterday morning.

The boy who was brought to the hospital by his father in a coma state was being treated for severe brain injury. Initially his father had said that the boy had fallen down from a desk, but the doctors had reported that the child had been beaten with a wooden object and there were burn injuries on several parts of his body. His right side of the brain was fully damaged.

The doctors performed emergency surgery and he has been kept in ventilator support. The government had also sent a team of experts from the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam for providing better medical care to the child. But he passed away yesterday morning.

The police have registered case under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act (punishment for cruelty to child) against the woman who hails from Jharkhand.

A team of police have left for Jharkhand to get details about the child’s family and also to find out whether his father and mother were his biological parents.
