Chennai: Three more persons have been suspended in connection with a tahsildar entering the strong room where the election documents and EVMs are stored in Madurai.
The three suspended persons are registrar office writer Srinivasan, Corporation junior assistant Rajaprakash and conservancy worker Surya Prakash.
Tahsildar Sampoornam was suspended yesterday for entering the strong room in the Madurai Medical College where the election documents and EVMs are stored.
Collector Natarajan suspended Sampoornam based on the recommendation of chief district polling officer. As Sampoornam claimed she went in to retrieve the diary of assistant polling officer Gurushankar, the collector has issued a notice seeking the official’s explanation.
The matter came to light after the AMMK candidate David Annadurai and CPI(M) candidate S Venkatesan visited the place and complained about the activity to Tamilnadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo.
Cottoning on to the breach, AMMK’s propaganda secretary Thanga Tamilselvan said today he would appeal to the Election Commission to allow agents of all parties to be present at night in the places where the EVMs are stored.
