Chennai: The third phase of elections in 13 States and two Union territories is under way right now.
The Election Commission of India had planned to conduct the 2019 general elections in seven phases throughout the country, considering various issues.
Today’s election is the third in the seven-phase schedule. Totally, 117 constituencies are going to polls today. There are more than a 1,000 contestants for these seats.
Of the 117 constituencies going to polls today, BJP had won 66 of them in 2014.
Some of the notable candidates whose fate will be decided by the voters today are BJP president Amit Shah in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad, Kerala, and Sashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
People of Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, Goa and nine other States are exercising their franchise today.
In Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan voted in his hometown and was among the first voters.
