Chennai: The city police arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife at Annai Sathya Nagar, near Fort railway station yesterday.
The accused, Chinnadurai (46), a construction labourer, and the victim, Balakumari, also a construction worker, were married for three years after she divorced her ex-husband.
The police said a quarrel erupted between them over dinner Monday night and both of them were drunk when the incident happened in their house.
“Chinnadurai kicked Balakumari on the chest and her head hit the iron cupboard that was behind her. Since he was drunk, he did not realise she was hurt. He fed her water and kept her in a sitting posture and went to sleep in an autorickshaw parked outside,” police sources said.
On Tuesday morning, Balakumari was found lying unconscious.
The Fort police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC. The post-mortem report revealed that Balakumari suffered severe internal head injury.
Later, Chinnadurai was questioned and he was subsequently arrested for murdering Balakumari.
The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
