Former DMK MP Vasanthi Stanley passes away

Chennai: Former DMK Rajya Sabha MP Vasanthi Stanley passed away here due to prolonged illness today. She was a member of the Upper House representing the DMK from 2008-2014. She was undergoing treatment in a private hospital. She was 56.

Vasanthi also held various positions in Rajya Sabha committees. She hailed from Srivilliputhur and is survived by her adopted son.

DMK leaders including party president MK Stalin and treasurer Durai Murugan condoled her demise.

Stalin along with wife Durga Stalin visited Vasanthi’s residence at Royapettah this morning and paid his last respects. Since Vasanthi was not maintaining good health, she could not campaign for DMK candidates in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters, Stalin, said, “Vasanthi had always upheld party’s principles. Her contribution was immense. She worked tirelessly for our growth. We will miss her services.”
