Who said there is there is plenty of action and drama only on screen? Tamil cinema always had loads of twists and turns not just in reel but in real too.
Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) witnessed troubles a few months ago with a section of members quitting and a few more protesting against its president Vishal. There were charges made of fund misappropriation. War of words erupted between members.
A Government Order was passed on 26 April appointing Special Officer N Sekar to look into the affairs of TFPC. He had earlier called for a general body meeting which was later cancelled. The Special Officer was appointed by the Registration Department after Inspector General of Registration conducted an inquiry into allegations and found that TFPC had violated a few provisions of the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act.
Meanwhile, Vishal has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging the government order that appointed Special Officer to manage the affairs the council. The petition also prayed for permission to the existing, duly elected office-bearers and executive committee members of the council to perform their functions until the next elections.
This has let loose lots of debates in the film world. May be with elections for the council round-the-corner, a newly-elected team of office-bearers would throw more light on the alleged irregularities.
