Seeking DMK support is only practical, explains AMMK leader

Thanga Tamilselvan

Chennai: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) propaganda secretary Thanga Tamilselvan has blamed the media for twisting his statement that the AMMK would take the help of the DMK to topple the AIADMK government, led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Alluding to all the reports that appeared in today’s papers and was the subject of topic in TV debates – that the AMMK would team up with the DMK to pull down the AIADMK government after 23 May when the election results would be announced – he told mediapersons in Madurai this morning that his statement had been twisted.

He argued that seeking the help of the DMK to dislodge the present AIADMK government was only ‘practical’.

Thanga Tamilselvan said those who were heading the Tamilnadu government now were traitors and it was only right to see them out of power.

Addressing mediapersons yesterday at Theni, Thanga Tamilselvan had said, “After winning in 22 Assembly constituencies, we will join hands with the DMK and dislodge the present government.”

The DMK should support AMMK in this matter, he said, and added failing which they will be considered as being scared. There will definitely be a change in government after 23 May, he had asserted.

He further said they will not support the DMK to form a new government. “Minister D Jayakumar is saying that the AMMK is DMK’s ‘B’ Team. If that was true, why are we contesting the elections alone? We need 35 MLAs to bring a no-confidence motion against the government,” he pointed out.

The Theni press interaction led to a lot of speculation among mediapersons that the AMMK and DMK had a secret pact to send the AIADMK government packing.
