Chennai: Mumbai Indians proved they were superior to Chennai Super Kings when they lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 trophy in the finals played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad Sunday.
Seamer Lasith Malinga in a matter of just six deliveries in his last over helped Mumbai clinch a record fourth title.
With nine to defend off six deliveries, Malinga, who had leaked 42 in his first three overs, got Shardul Thakur out lbw with a slow off-cutter to deny Chennai Super Kings a win that seemed within their reach.
Malinga wrapped up the match by trapping Thakur lbw with the slow off-cutter off the last ball of the match. The Mumbai Indians clinched victory by one run and lifted their fourth IPL title, the most by any team in the history of IPL.
