Chennai: A cylinder exploded at a house on Sundaramoorthy Vinayagar Koil Street, Triplicane, last night.
The incident caused extensive damage to the house, but none the inmates was injured in the mishap.
According to the police, house owner Senthil Kumar (38) owned three houses in the locality and gave it for rent.
The blast took place in a house rented to Raji, a daily wage earner.
The police said Raji had got a new cylinder and when she tried to switch on the stove, a fire broke out and she ran out of the house. The explosion took place at 8.30 pm.
The kitchen slab, the tiled roof and things in the house were gutted.
The fire and rescue services personnel from Triplicane rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
