Gone are those days when prominent heroes choose to do only one film at a time. Except for Ajith, Vijay and Rajinikanth almost all Tamil heroes work in more than two films at the same time today.
The likes of Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan and GV Prakash top the chart. Ask them the reason, they say, “More is merrier. We live the challenge and our fans will be thrilled.”
Here is a quick look at actors and their on-going projects.
Vijay Sethupathi
He is the most busiest actor in Tamil cinema with maximum releases last year. Currently his hands are full and he manages to hop from one place to another shooting for movies, not just in Tamil but Telugu and Malayalam too. In Tamil, he has completed the shoot for Sindhubaadh. He has wrapped shoot for first schedule of Laabam in which he shares screen with Sruthi Haasan. Vijay Sethupathi is also busy with director Seenu Ramasamy’s film. He will be making his debut in the Telugu film industry with the Chiranjeevi starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy this year. In this film, he will be sharing the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Kiccha Sudeep.
The star is also all set to make his acting debut in the Malayalam film industry with Mathai Marconi in which he shares the screen space with Jayaram.
Sivakarthikeyan
Untill last year, Sivakarthikeyan chose to do one at a time and he had just a couple of releases every year. However now he seems to have made up his mind to do more simultaneously. His next Mr Local starring Nayanthara as heroine is complete. A hilarious entertainer, it would be out 17 May.
Sivakarthikeyan is now acting in Hero, being directed by Irumbu Thirai fame Mithran, a sci-fi thriller with director Ravikumar and a family drama, helmed by Pandiraj for Sun Pictures. After completing them, I would shoot for director Vignesh Sivn’s untitled project for Lyca Productions.
Ask him why too many at the same time, he says, “I have resolved to act in at least 3 films a year. I am planning to release at least one movie every six months. It will make my fans happy. I want to meet media often and refresh myself. Each film gives me lots of experiences.”
Suriya
He had his last release in 2018 – Thaanaa Serndha Kootam. After almost a year, he is expected to have three movies releasing one-after-another in 2019.
This month-end comes NGK, directed by Selvaraghavan. It is a political satire. Rakul Preet and Sai Pallavi play heroine’s. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. This August will see Suriya’s Kaappaan hitting the screens. A KV Anand directorial, it features Suriya in the role of NSG Commando. Mohanlal, Arya and Sayeesha form part of the project.
Also Suriya is shooting for Sorarai Pottri, helmed by Irudhi Suttru fame Sudha Kongara. The actor’s fans are delighted to see their favourite star on screen more this year.
GV Prakash
The music composer-turned-actor has almost eight films in various stages of production as hero. He is scoring music for Suriya starrer Soirarsi Pottri and Dhanush’s Asuran.
Much recently released his heroic venture Watchman. Some of his forthcoming films in lead role include Vasantabalan’s Jail, director Sasi’s Sivappu Manjal Pachai, 100% Kadhal, Ayngaran, Adangathey, 4G and Kadhalikka Yarumillai.
On acting in so many films, GV Prakash says, “I am in no stress. I have passion to act. I enjoy what I do.”
Vikram
The actor who has been in the industry for over three decades has come up the hard way. From Sethupathi till Saamy Square, he won the hearts of Dan’s with his versatile performance. Interestingly Vikram is busy part of thee movies.
Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram is almost complete. He plays an international spy in it. He awaits release of Kadaran Kondan by Rajesh M Selva. The highlight of KK is that it is produced by Kamal Haasan. Also Vikram has begun to shoot for a mega movie Mahavir Karna, an epic drama being made in various languages.
Jiiva
Actor Jiiva who was last seen in Kee that hit the screens last week has three films in his kitty. He has completed shoots for Gorilla and Gypsy.
He is shooting for Hindi movie 83 based on India’s world cup triumph in 1983. He plays Tamilnadu cricket opener opener K Srikkanth in it.
