2019 by-polls: Eggs, stones hurled during Kamal’s meeting

Aravakurichi: Two unidentified persons threw eggs and stones at the dais where Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan was holding a public meeting here and tension prevailed after the incident.

The incident happened when Kamal was getting off the stage and MNM functionaries roughed up the two persons who had allegedly indulged in the act.

The actor-politician was denied permission by the Coimbatore police yesterday to undertake campaign for the Sulur by-elections apparently due to the ongoing controversy. Following this, MNM workers staged a protest and police officials held talks with them.

It is to be noted that on Wednesday when Kamal was addressing an election meeting in the Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency, a footwear was hurled on his vehicle.

The MNM chief had stoked controversy when he remarked “free India’s first extremist was a Hindu,” referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.
