MNM chief Kamal advises party cadre to maintain decorum

Chennai: After eggs, stones and footwear were hurled at Kamal Haasan’s by-poll meetings and campaigns on Wednesday and Thursday, tension prevailed among his party cadres.

Amid such incidents, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief tweeted, “Dear MNM family and fans, this is an acid test for our decorum and demeanour. Do not listen to their noises and be drawn into their violence…. They are extremists who are slighted by the Truth. Naalai Namadhey!

Two unidentified persons threw eggs and stones at the dais where the actor-politician was holding a public meeting here and the MNM workers apparently roughed up the perpetrators for the act.

Kamal’s “free India’s first extremist was a Hindu,” referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse, snowballed into a major controversy. He received flak from various political leaders and actors for his comments.
