Hyderabad: BJPs Bhopal Lok Sabha seat candidate and Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh received ire for her remarks that Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse was a patriot.
K T Rama Rao, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president, slammed Pragya for her comments and demanded an apology.
“No matter what politics you affiliate with, what ideology you espouse, there are some lines that you just don’t cross. Pragya Singh Thakur’s statement is absolutely reprehensible and abominable. She should apologise unconditionally for vilifying the Father of our nation,” Rao said on his Twitter handle.
“Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt (patriot), he is and will remain a deshbhakt. Those calling him a terrorist should instead look at themselves. They will be given a befitting reply in this election,” Pragya Singh stated when she was questioned about Kamal Haasan’s comments that “free India’s first extremist was a Hindu.” The BJP leader later apologised for her comments and withdrew the statement.
However, BJP said Mahatma Gandhi’s killer cannot be a patriot and distanced itself from her remark.
