Denied money for liquor, teen assaults girlfriend, her mother in Chennai

Chennai: An 18-year-old boy has been remanded by the police for assaulting his girlfriend and her mother in public at Puzhal.

According to the police, the accused, Santhosh Kumar, who is unemployed, has been in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl for the past three years. He is a resident of Vinayakapuram, Puzhal, and is an alcoholic.

His girlfriend, who works in a beauty parlour at Perambur Red Hills Road, often gave him money to buy liquor, it is said.

On Monday, when she was returning from work with her mother Kuppammal, a drunk Santhosh approached her near Secretariat Colony asking for Rs 300 to buy liquor.

On seeing this, Kuppammal began yelling at him. In a fit of rage, Santhosh began slapping both the women on the road and a passerby informed the police.

Soon, policemen arrived at the spot and arrested Santhosh under the Women Harassment Act.
