Adyar residents strive for local governance

Chennai: Neighbourhood-based collective #VoiceOfPeople, a coalition of concerned citizens, who focus on working towards enabling a true participatory democracy, at all levels of governance, is the talk of the town.

A press release said, it is currently batting for Ward Committees and Area Sabhas, a reality in urban governance and is looking at effective ways to pressurise the State government, to implement the Tamilnadu Municipal Laws (Amendment) Act, 2010.

Recently, the team conducted a session, ‘Enabling Citizens’ Participation in Urban Local Governance – Sharing Insights and Experiences Meet’, in which groups such as Thannatchi, Satta Panchayat Iyakkam, Arappor Iyakkam, Makkal Padhai, Thozhan and Citizens Matters, participated.

Resource Person from KILA (Kerala Institute of Local Administation), advocate Saifudeen, co-founder, CfB (Citizens for Bengaluru), Srinivas Alavilli and former Chief Planner and Board Member of CMDA, N V Rakhunath, addressed the gathering.
