Chennai: Sleuths from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized huge quantity of Pseudoephdrine, a controlled substance under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) and arrested four men here, on 20 May.
Further inquiries led to the arrest of one more person this morning.
According to sources, nearly, 25 kilograms of Pseudoephdrine was seized from them. “After the four were arrested, they were taken to Delhi and Mumbai for inquiry. During interrogation, they revealed the identity of their kingpin, who was arrested in Chennai this morning,” sources said.
It is said that the kingpin was involved in smuggling of Pseudoephedrine from India to Malaysia.
A 32-year-old resident of Mylapore, the accused tried to escape when the officials arrived, but the sleuths managed to nab him. Following his arrest, the NCB team found 49.5 kilograms of Pseudoephedrine from a godown located at Choolaimedu. The substance was allegedly kept to be smuggled out to Malaysia in concealment.
