Nanganalur residents raise concern over bad roads

Broken slabs in Lakshmi Nagar

Chennai: Walk down the Third Main Road of Thillai Ganga Nagar, one is sure to slip off. Such is the road condition. Kannan, a resident of the loclity, said, “The road was dug up by Tamilnadu Electricity Board (TNEB) on 4 May citing the reason to fix the cable faults in the neighbourhood. However, a little away on the same stretch, the authorities had dug the road and left it without covering it.”

A shopkeeper in the vicinity, said, people flattened the road all by themselves with some more soil.

Kannan alleged that the work had been happening since six months and the authorities have not bothered fixing the roads for the welfare of residents.

Incomplete work on Third Main Road in Thillai Ganga Nagar

At Tenth Street in Lakshmi Nagar, the road condition is similar. “Since the past two months, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officials have not laid black-topped roads. Coupled with this is the problem of construction labourers dumping the debris,” said Lakshmi Nagar resident Priya.

Just weeks after laying fresh pavements, waste like broken toilet can be found on the spot apart from institutional garbage.

She further complained of the dust it leaves behind on the road and house disturbing senior citizens and children in the area.

“The concrete slabs placed on the middle of the road have also broken and are left as they are causing inconcenience to motorists. In a few places, the structure have also caved in and only half portion is visible. Numerous complaints raised on this matter which have not fallen on the ears of authorities,” she added.
