Depressed woman cop ends life in Chennai

Chennai: A woman head constable who attempted suicide due to mental stress at T P Chatram here last night passed away this morning at a hospital.

According to police, Aruna (44) was attached to the All Women Police Station, Kilpauk. She lived at T P Chatram Police Quarters with her husband Jayachandran who works with a private company. The couple has two children – a daughter aged 21, who has completed engineering and a son, aged 15, who has completed class 10.

A police source said, “Aruna was mentally depressed due to family issues and she had been undergoing treatment for it. She was worried about her mother who has a kidney ailment as doctors gave her a month to live. A year ago her brother committed suicide by jumping from a train.”

Last night, Aruna was found hanging in one of the rooms in their house and was rushed to Government Kilpauk Hospital for treatment. However, she passed away today morning.
