Chennai: Disclaimer: This story is only for those who are fully aware of, understand and relish TN and its Vadivelu culture.
When Tamilnadu was busy with #PrayForNesamani, a ‘plan panni pannanum‘ event was taking place in New Delhi, where Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term.
Tamilnadu might have considered him an ‘Imsai Arasan‘ and presented his party and its alliance partners a ‘salli salliya norukitingale da‘ result in the recently-concluded elections (ennaa adi!).
In turn, for the first time in the history (varalaru miga mukkiyam, amaichare), no elected MP from Tamilnadu found a place in the newly-inducted Cabinet.
Till the last minute, O P Raveendranath, the lone Lok Sabha member of the AIADMK-BJP alliance in TN, was expected to become a Minister of State. His supporters were apparently dreaming to scream ‘varungala Americka janathipathi‘, as they had declared him MP even before he won the polls.
Senior AIADMK leader and Rajya Sabha member Vaithilingam’s name, too, did the rounds after he reportedly planned a ‘maapu vechittaanda aappu‘ kind of revolt in the AIADMK if he was not given a berth in the Central government. But, till now, it’s ‘Unaku oru vengala koppai kooda kidayaathu‘ for whatever reason.
However, there are two other ministers who have their roots in Tamilnadu. Both of them are not Manguni amaichars, as they have been given key portfolios – One is Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance) and the other is S Jaishankar (External Affairs).
But this is not enough for a State like Tamilnadu, which was enjoying ‘sing in the rain’ moments in the Union government till 2014.
There were a bunch of ministers from TN who called the shots in Delhi with plum portfolios and things were ‘nalla thaana poitu irundhadhu‘. In the 2014 polls, Tamilnadu shifted from ‘I am your best friend’ mode to ‘Por aama por‘. The ‘Kattadhoraikku kattam sari illai‘ legacy was started by Jayalalithaa that year when she asked, ‘Modi ya, indha lady aa?’ and won 37 out of 39 seats.
It is now being carried forward by the ‘same blood’ DMK with ‘GobackModi’ trends and a massive victory in the 2019 LS polls.
When Tamil social media users started trending ‘PrayForNesamani’ on a day when Modi was getting ready for the swearing-in, the whole country, if not the world, eagerly wanted to know what was happening in the ‘raththa boomi‘.
And when they were told the reason, their reaction was like ‘chinna pulla thanama illa iruku‘ and ‘loosu payala nee‘.
Some BJP ‘bakthals‘ even alleged that it was the handiwork of the DMK, which is in ‘vada poche‘ mode after winning 38 Lok Sabha seats.
But meme creators were like ‘ippo enna nadakka pogudhunu mattum paaru‘ and came out with more posts. For them, any happening is a meme content and any person is Vaigai Puyal. Vadivelu for life.
