Ilayaraja’s b’day special

“I will help constrict the building for Tamil Cine Musicians Association,” said maestro Ilayaraja. Speaking at a live-in concert organised as part of his birthday celebrations in Chennai Sunday, Ilayaraja, said, “I owe a lot to music. As a gpoodwill gesture, I will bear all the expenses to come up with a building for the musicians union.”

Acclaimed singers KJ Yesudas, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Usha Uthup, Mano, Bombay Jayashree, Sudha Raghunathan among others performed at the show. It was SPB’s first public event with Ilayaraja since their fall out over royalties in 2017. Actor Kamal Haasan also sang a few numbers on the occasion.

Popular film personalities, veterans from the music industry and people from all walks of lives attended the show. The EVP Grounds near Poonamalle witnessed people from various parts of Tamilnadu coming together for the mega event. Hit numbers of Ilayaraja from 1980 and 90s were predominantly performed on stage.
