Hyderabad: Central government yesterday allocated Rs 896.09 crore for developing the Hyderabad campus of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), which is one of the research institutes in the country, for the period 2019-2024.
According to a press release, Government of India under the Department of Atomic Energy entirely funds TIFR.
TIFR came up in Hyderabad for meeting the scientific and technological challenges a detailed project proposal was submitted to the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).
In February, AEC approved the proposal and allotted Rs 896.09 crore. Major research activities on the theme ‘Life-Light-Matter’ are being planned in the campus.
Apart from the basic sciences, the research shall lay importance on making inroads into the translational sciences that will be a direct benefit to the society. A Science Media Centre and Innovation Hub will also be set up, added the release.
PhD programmes are available at the campus, which includes 25 faculty members, 95 research scholars and 33 post-doctoral fellows.
