Chennai: A meeting of BJP leaders was convened here today at party headquarters Kamalalayam to discuss their poor performance in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections in Tamilnadu.

The meeting was chaired by Muralidhar Rao, in charge of Tamilnadu affairs. State unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan, former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, senior leader H Raja, among others, took part.

Though the NDA alliance, led by the BJP swept the polls across the country, it fared very badly in Tamilnadu.

The BJP fought the polls in AIADMK alliance. It contested in five seats (Sivaganga, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi).

The alliance could win only in Theni, where AIADMK candidate O P Raveendranath, son of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, was the winner.

The DMK combine walked away with 37 seats. Leaders like Pon Radhakrishnan and Tamilisai Soundararajan saw defeat by a huge margin.
